Japanese equipment manufacturer Komatsu has unveiled a new hydraulic control system for high-production longwall systems.

The technology is designed to support powered roof supports.

The Joy Compak Next Gen system is designed to facilitate shearer cutting rate with higher cycle time performance. Cycle times are improved by up to 12%, according to Komatsu.

The size of the system has been reduced by up to 27% and its weight has been lowered up to 30%, improving accessibility and positioning. Komatsu has also adjusted the hosing position for greater convenience.

The new design also minimises fitting and connecting hoses to lower the number of potential leak points.

Joy Compak Next Gen has been built with corrosion-resistant materials which can be used in rugged environments. The materials have been applied to Joy Compak Next Gen’s valve block assemblies, components, and main body.

Komatsu has also reduced the number of components to lower wear and tear.

Joy Compak Next Gen also has a newly engineered spool valve that can handle higher flow rates, both to extend the life of the system and reduce the risk of part failure.

The hydraulic system can also be upgraded or retrofit to any powdered roof support system, Komatsu said.

The system has also been designed with modular parts, making it easier to replace parts without extended wait times.
