Kola MMC has started repair of a section of the gas duct used for off-gas transportation from smelting units of metallurgical shop to sulfuring acid production department of refining shop.

It is planned to replace a total of 15 sections of the gas duct with the total lengths of 293 m.

New sections are made of high quality 10 mm steel with inner lining of polyisobutylene (special acid proofing material). Each section is 3 meter in diameter and 18 meters long. Pechengastroy, Kola MMC subsidiary, is engaged in dismantling and section-by-section replacement of gas duct segments with two special cranes.

Section-by-section repair of gas duct without interruption of production process is in progress for several years in a row. Up to date over 65 per cent of gas duct with total length of about 1.3 km was replaced. It helped to considerably reduce fugitive emissions of sulfur dioxide
