MacLean Engineering has announced a strategic battery partnership with Scania Industrial Batteries, establishing the latter as the primary battery supplier for MacLeanโ€™s expanding line of underground mining battery-electric equipment. This collaboration represents an important milestone in the ongoing efforts of MacLean Engineering to supply dependable, safe, and sustainable electrification solutions to underground mining operations across the globe.

Comprehensive Global Evaluation

Before establishing this strategic battery partnership, MacLean Engineering conducted an extensive global evaluation process. The rigorous selection protocol encompassed, Detailed technical assessments, Strict compliance reviews, Comprehensive safety evaluations and, Long-term support considerations.

Scania Industrial Batteries emerged as the preferred supplier for the manufacturer’s battery-electric vehicle platform. Throughout this assessment period, significant emphasis was placed on overall battery performance, operational reliability, regulatory compliance, and technician safety. The engineering teams paid particular attention to battery system design, incorporating measures to reduce arc flash incident energy and promote safe maintenance procedures within demanding underground mining environments.

Advancing Electrification Objectives

The shift toward battery-electric equipment has become an increasingly practical alternative to traditional diesel-powered fleets as mining companies seek to reduce operational costs, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improve subterranean working conditions.

Furthermore, the collaboration directly contributes to the Real Zero 2040 commitment. The Real Zero 2040 pledge outlines the companyโ€™s objective to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across both its operations and its wider value chain by the year 2040.

Shared Commitments and Future Deployments

Both organizations plan to work closely to facilitate current and upcoming battery-electric equipment deployments.
