The first batch of diamond recovered from Ghaghoo mine in Botswana will be sold in February 2015.

Gem Diamonds has announced through an interim management statement last week that it will sell the first 4 028 ct of diamonds next year February. The diamond, which was recovered in a mine officially opened in September this year, would be sold together with diamonds from the Gem’s Letšeng mine, in in Lesotho, in an attempt to encourage the past buyers to contribute.

Letšeng mine in Lesotho has so far made a tremendous steps with diamond production sales of 28 365 ct in the third quarter of the last year ended September, compared to a sale of 28 623 ct on the second quarter of the same year.

All these success is due to the replacement of a vertical conveyor on Plant 2, as well as a higher percentage of ore which was being sourced from the main pipe during the third quarter. The company would also consider carrying other phases of expansion once this phase if complete, according to reports.

The Ghaghoo diamond mine was recently officially opened by the president of Botswana. The mine is held by Gem Diamonds’ wholly owned subsidiary, Gem Diamonds Botswana; which has a 25-year mining licence od the same. The Ghaghoo mine is situated in the south-east portion of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve.
