Continuing success at Kou Sa in Cambodia

December 2, 2015
in Middle East, News

Ongoing drilling by Geopacific Resources at Prospect 160 of the Kou Sa Copper-Gold Project in northern Cambodia continues to intersect thick sulphide intersections and has demonstrated increasing thickness of the dilation zone.

Prospect 160 is one of the most advanced areas at Kou Sa and is expected to form part of a maiden resource. The prospect is open at depth and to the northwest.

The ongoing infill and extensional drilling program is defining a thick zone of copper sulphide mineralization that forms the central core of the mineralized structure. The current strike length of the Prospect160 mineralization is 300 metres and drilling continues to test the depth.

On October 22 Geopacific announced a 42 metre wide intersection of sulphide mineralization in one hole and the 1 metre splits have now returned the following results from 55 metres depth: 41 metres @ 1.64% copper and 3.58 grams/tonne gold for 1.69% copper equivalent, including 1 metre @ 3.05% copper and 4.05 grams/tonne for 3.10% copper equivalent.

Also announced were the 4 metre composite results for two other holes from the thick central core of the mineralization. The 1 metre splits have now been returned and results include: 18 metres @ 2.56% copper and 7.64 grams/tonne gold for 2.65% copper equivalent; and 27 metres @ 3.48% copper and 6.04 grams/tonne gold for 3.55% copper equivalent.

The grades are almost identical to those of the 4 metre composites, demonstrating the consistency of grade within this thick zone.

Geopacific’s managing director Ron Heeks said, “The thickness of this zone at Prospect 160 indicates that the source of mineralization at Kou Sa must be substantial to be able to pump mineralized fluids into 40 metres of host rock. This zone is expected to add considerably to the metal inventory of the project.

“Continued drilling of Prospect 160 is a priority with a diamond drill rig being used to test the mineralization at depth.”

The smaller diamond rig on site has now been replaced with a larger, track-mounted rig that will initially be drilling at the Prospect 160 area.

The second diamond rig is drilling west of the Prospect 100 area where a zone of copper mineralization was identified in first pass drilling.

The RC rig will move to Prospect 120 to undertake the first drilling, targeting the area below the trenching which was undertaken several months ago and identified several broad zones at surface.
