Investment in the project totalled more than 600 mn roubles. The modernisation will enable the Company to increase production of high-quality rolled steel by 67,000 tonnes per year.

The new reduction and calibration section will ensure that every steel bar is the correct size, within 0.15mm diameters of precision. The reduction and calibration section enables the Company to produce hot-calibrated rolled steel products at temperatures starting from 950 º?.

Germany’s SMS Group supplied the specialist technical equipment for the reduction and calibration section. Gipromez Institute, a Metalloinvest company, developed the design of the project.

Nazim Efendiev, Deputy CEO and Sales Director of Management Company Metalloinvest, Shukhrat Nishanov, Marketing Director of Management Company Metalloinvest, and Sergey Shishkovets, Managing Director of OEMK, as well as Johannes Kahlen, Executive Vice President of SMS Group, took part in the opening ceremony of the reduction and calibration system.

The rolled steel produced at Rolling Unit #2 is used in machine and car manufacturing, instrument and bearing production, and in metal constructions for the petrochemicals industry, bridges, and offshore platforms.

Nazim Efendiev, Deputy CEO and Sales Director of Management Company Metalloinvest, commented: “The launch of the reduction and calibration section allows the Company to expand range of products produced at Rolling Mill 350 and to receive high-precision hot-calibrated rolled steel products which do not need further finishing and can be shipped immediately to customers. Thanks to the constant development of Metalloinvest’s industrial capabilities, the Company successfully competes with leading international players on the high-quality steel market.”

Sergey Shishkovets, Managing Director of OEMK, said: “The new reduction and calibration section will not only provide high-precision hot-calibrated rolled steel products without the need for further finishing, but it will also increase production efficiency by reducing the time required for roll changing and tuning of equipment when switching from one type of product to the next. The high level of precision of the reduction and calibration section’s rolled steel products will enable a reduction in metal shavings waste of up to 5,000 tonnes per year.”
