Zijin Longking has launched a 230-tonne-class Battery Mining Truck in China as the company expands its new-energy mining equipment portfolio and develops technologies for large-scale open-pit operations.
The ZL230E pure electric mining truck, formerly known as the LK350E, was unveiled during a rollout ceremony in Longyan City, Fujian Province, on August 10. Zijin Longking said the vehicle is currently the largest-tonnage pure electric mining truck in China.
The launch took place alongside an investment promotion and business matching event focused on the “Mining + Intelligent Manufacturing” industry in Xinluo District.
The ZL230E has a gross vehicle weight of 350 tonnes, an empty weight of 120 tonnes and a maximum payload of 230 tonnes. Its heaped body has a capacity of 125 cubic metres.
ZL230E Designed for Large-Scale Open-Pit Mines
The Battery Mining Truck has been designed for high-intensity operations in ultra-large open-pit mines, including long-distance transportation, heavy-load uphill haulage and continuous operation under complex conditions.
The ZL230E uses a multi-axle, centrally distributed independent-drive architecture paired with two 800 kW motors. The system enables power to be distributed across the drive axles while maintaining power delivery during uphill operations.
The truck is equipped with a high-capacity, long-life battery system that supports ultra-fast charging. According to Zijin Longking, the battery can reach 90% capacity in 25 minutes, reducing charging downtime during mining operations.
The vehicle also uses a high-rigidity frame structure with multiple ring beams, together with a dual-control chassis, redundant braking and steering systems and intelligent energy management technology.
Zijin Longking said these features are intended to support the requirements of heavy-load mining operations while improving the vehicle’s reliability and maintainability.
The company is developing the ZL230E as part of a broader strategy to expand its new-energy mining equipment business. Zijin Longking President Huang Wei said the company is accelerating independent research and development of high-tonnage electric mining trucks while drawing on the mining operational experience of its major shareholder, Zijin Mining.
Zijin Longking also plans to integrate electric mining equipment with wind power, solar power, energy storage and charging or battery-swapping infrastructure. The company aims to develop an integrated system combining renewable energy, storage, charging and mining equipment.
Zijin Longking and EACON Sign Autonomy Partnership
The launch was accompanied by a strategic cooperation agreement between EACON Mining and Fujian Longking Lianhui Technology, a subsidiary established to expand Zijin Longking’s intelligent and green mining equipment solutions.
The agreement covers driverless mining vehicles, smart mines, new-energy mining equipment and the integration of vehicles, roads and cloud-based systems.
Under the partnership, EACON and Longking Lianhui will combine the Battery Mining Truck platform with autonomous driving technology to develop driverless haulage vehicles for open-pit mining environments.
The planned systems will integrate EACON’s capabilities in perception, decision-making, vehicle control and cloud-based dispatch with Longking Lianhui’s electric mining truck platform.
The companies also plan to conduct scenario-based validation and support large-scale deployment of intelligent mining equipment under real-world operating conditions.
Autonomous Technology Extends Electric Mining Equipment
EACON has deployed autonomous driving solutions at more than 40 large-scale mines, according to the source. These include Zijin Mining’s Zijinshan Gold-Copper Mine and Julong Copper Mine in Tibet, as well as the Norton Gold Fields project in Australia.
EACON currently has more than 3,100 autonomous mining trucks in operation, with cumulative autonomous transport distance exceeding 150 million kilometres.
The partnership will also cover joint development of industry technologies, intellectual property and standards for autonomous mining.
The companies said combining electric mining equipment with autonomous driving technology could support the development of more intelligent mining transport solutions. The cooperation reflects the increasing convergence of electrification and automation in mining haulage, with the ZL230E providing an electric platform for the development of autonomous haulage systems.
