Mercuria has committed $500 million to VaultCo, a strategic minerals reserve initiative backed by the U.S. Export-Import Bank, as the company takes a new role in strengthening domestic access to critical minerals. The commitment to Project Vault, now known as VaultCo, was announced in New York on September 23 and is intended to support U.S. industrial supply chains during periods of disruption, market dislocation and shortages.
VaultCo was designed by the U.S. Export-Import Bank to maintain strategic inventories of critical minerals on American soil. Mercuria will participate as an anchor partner, using its experience across physical commodity trading, logistics, storage and risk management to support the reserve structure.
Strategic Reserve Targets Supply Chain Resilience
The initiative is designed to provide U.S. industry with greater access to essential minerals when international supply chains face disruption or heightened volatility. By maintaining inventories within the United States, VaultCo aims to create a strategic buffer for manufacturers, infrastructure providers and energy systems that depend on critical mineral availability.
The new commitment gives the critical mineral supply chain a direct link to a large global commodities group with capabilities spanning sourcing, transportation, storage and market risk management. Mercuria said its involvement is expected to support a more robust and flexible supply platform for U.S. industrial users.
The critical mineral supply chain has become increasingly important to industries that depend on reliable access to metals and minerals used across modern manufacturing and infrastructure. VaultCo is structured around securing that access through strategic inventories that can be made available during periods when conventional market supply is constrained.
Mercuria Joins U.S. Government-Backed Mineral Initiative
Mercuria’s participation comes alongside the U.S. government and the Export-Import Bank, which is supporting the initiative as part of its broader role in strengthening critical supply chains. The bank provides financing tools including loan guarantees, direct loans, working capital guarantees and export credit insurance.
The critical mineral supply strategy also reflects Mercuria’s broader position in physical commodities markets. The company operates across energy and metals markets and manages logistics and risk across complex international value chains. Its participation in VaultCo brings those capabilities into a strategic reserve framework focused on U.S. industrial requirements.
The initiative is expected to support supply certainty for U.S. companies exposed to global market disruptions and shortages. By combining domestic inventories with Mercuria’s commodity-market and logistics capabilities, VaultCo is being positioned as a more flexible supply platform for critical minerals.
Mercuria’s $500 million commitment marks the first milestone in its participation in the VaultCo structure. The programme will rely on the strategic inventory model to help maintain access to critical minerals for U.S. manufacturing, infrastructure and energy systems when normal supply channels face disruption.
